This is the entirety of my book Gregory the Dumb lil Monster!  The whole book was hand made (screen printed, hand-bound, and cut/folded page-by-page), which was quite the experience.  Lots of work, but a lot of fun.  I made an edition of ten books, seven of which are still available and for sale (message me if you’re interested in a copy).

I have to say, I’ve grown rather fond of Gregory.  Maybe fond enough to make a sequel…  ;D

Today wrapped up an awesome weekend at Springcon!  I was at the Dead Comics Society table with some of the lovely ladies of the MCAD comic department- Liz Glein, Jaime Willems, Mayme Thompson, and Leigh Luna.  We spent our weekend selling comics (and then promptly spending our earnings on other comics), meeting other artists (as well as seeing some familiar faces, like the wonderful Jim Keefe, who took the upper picture), and, as you can see in picture #2, sometimes doofing around on twitter or playing draw something.  PROFESSIONALISM!

The first image here is a page from Frank Miller and David Mazzucchelli’s Batman: Year One. The other four are my self-directed final project for my experimental comics class.  I thought it’d be fun to take a page from such an iconic book and, without changing the dialogue or basic thrust of the action, redraw the page in the styles of other recognizable comics (Tintin, Adventure Time, Garfield, and shojo manga).  It was fun seeing what the new styles did to the page, and a great drawing exercise!  Plus, I got to draw more kawaii Batman.  Awwww yeah.

Workin’ on my photoshop skills again today.  This was coloring over a panel from a comic I penciled last year but never got around to inking.  Now I might have to go in and color the whole page… :D

Hey guys!  Finals are a thing right now so art posts might be pretty scarce for a few weeks.  Soooo, I thought I’d give you a sneak peek at something I’m working on.  This is my rough for the first page of a short book called Gregory the Dumb Lil’ Monster.  I’ll be making both screen printed and digital copies of the book, so look forward to process posts in the next couple weeks.

This week I tried printing a repeating pattern onto fabric for the first time.  Just about everything went wrong in the process of making this thing but for a first attempt I think it turned out okay.  Also, ghosts.  Wheeeeeeee~

Holy hell it feels like I haven’t done a straight-up comic page in forever.  Feels good, man.  Feels good.

This comic is an illustrated excerpt from The Lucifer Effect by Philip Zimbardo.

For my experimental comics class this week we had to make a comic that had to be destroyed in the process of reading it.  Mine was a cake comic that had to be eaten in order to see the end, which was painted onto the tray beneath the cake.  My fellow comic majors were happy to help with the eating portion of the project.

If you’d like to check out art by some of the amazing folks in these pictures, please check out their tumblrs:
